Obituaries - R

Reese, William H.

In Memoriam.

The subject of this brief sketch--William H. Reese--was born in Des Arc, Mo., July 7th, 1864.

At the age of 18, having to make his way in the world which is the brief stage upon which every man is called to play his part, he came to Ironton, and was employed in the mercantile houses of T.S. Lopez & Sons here and in Piedmont for several years. He also, for over a year, sold merchandise for Capt. W.H. Byers. In 1886 he and his brother, D.F. Reese, formed a copartnership and engaged in business for themselves, which partnership was but lately dissolved.

On the 16th of May, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Mamie Zwart, with whom his few remaining years were most happily spent. His death was the result of that dread disease, consumption, and he suffered long, but his anguish was soothed by the loving care of her who blest him living and mourns him now. To her Time must bring the balm that stays the strongest pain; for him there is evermore rest and peace.

Richardson, Cora (nee Harrel)

Iron County Register, Ironton, Missouri, Thursday, January 24, 1895, Page 5.

Cora Richardson (nee Harral) was born in Belleview, Mo., April 1, 1872.

She was married at the residence of the Rev. Dr. Ford of the Second Baptist Church, St. Louis, December 2, 1892, to Leonard Richardson, who with many relatives and friends, survives to mourn her loss.

She died at her home in St. Louis, Sunday, January 6, 1895, after a long illness. Aged 22 years, 9 months and 6 days.

Her body was conveyed to her early home, Belleview, Mo., and after the funeral exercises were conducted at the church by the Rev. J.H. Headlee, she was followed by a long procession to the Edison Cemetery, where she remains to await the final day.

Mrs. Richardson was a very devoted young mother. Her constant smiles ever made the home bright and cheerful. Toward the evening of life she found light, and for several weeks enjoyed that peace which God alone can give. She did not fear death; for she realized that her triumph had begun. A short time before she died she called the attention of her husband to the visitation of her Savior and a great number of the angelic hosts, which had no doubt come to bear her safely home.

It is hard for us to understand, sometimes, why such an one should be cut down just in the bloom of life. Yes, very hard. But, oh, let us ever remember, that the earth is the Lords, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

May our Heavenly Father ever bless the only sister and bereaved husband, and lead them in the ways of truth and life. And especially let our prayers be that through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the faithful husband may be able to teach his precious little babe to love the beautiful, true, and good. R.E. Atkinson.

Rothisberger, Elizabeth & Christian

Iron County Register, Ironton, Missouri, July 7, 1892, Page 5.

Obituary--ELIZABETH ROTHISBERGER was born in Germany, August 20th, 1820, and died at Edge Hill, Reynolds county, Mo., December 29th, 1891, aged 71 years.

Mother Rothisberger, with her husband and six children, emigrated to America about six years ago. She was an amiable Christian, a devoted member of her church, a loving wife and fond mother. She passed from time to eternity peacefully, surrounded by husband, children, grandchildren and friends.

Two days after the death of our mother passed away our oldest brother, CHRISTIAN ROTHISBERGER, in his forty-fifth year.

For twenty-eight years he was a constant sufferer with consumption, and yet not a murmur arose from his lips, but he always comforted his friends by saying, "God doeth all things well." He was a faithful member of the church and we have an assurance that his soul rests with his God.

GOTTLIEB ROTHISBERGER, our dear youngest, brother was born July 1st, 1862, and departed this life June 28th, 1892, aged 30 years.

On Friday, June 24th, as Gottlieb was starting to the field with the reaper, one of the horses became frightened and ran away, throwing him off with such force as to break his leg in three places and to produce concussion of the brain. After the first few minutes he sank into a stupor, from which he never aroused. Although Gottlieb had lived among us but a short time he made many friends and died mourned by all his acquaintances. The aged husband and father, the brothers and sisters of this afflicted family have the warmest sympathy of their neighbors, whos o kindly aided this family of strangers in a strange land in their deep distress. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Matthew Adams of Goodland.

Grieve we with tears for the loved ones,
Taken from earth and is ill;
Weep o'er the hand softly folded,
Over the heart now so still.
Hark! 'tis the voices of angels
Floating so softly down--
Earth hath the pall and the coffin,
Heaven the robe and the crown.

A Friend.
